About Brain Gym®
 |
Brain Gym® is a learning readiness program. Through simple movements and protocols, Brain Gym® redirects neural pathways of behavior, thought, and feeling. Because it taps into the root of the learning process, Brain Gym® can be applied to any task, skill, or situation.
Brain Gym®, or Educational Kinesiology, was first developed by Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D., to address dyslexia in children. During the last twenty years, Gail E. Dennison has worked closely with him to create this ever-changing and growing body of techniques, research, and hands-on work. "Edu-K" is now practiced in schools, sports, business, arts, and health settings in over a dozen countries and languages, and used to address most learning differences, as well as performance enhancement, personal development, trauma release, vision, coordination and hearing . . . just about any aspect of life.
The basic Brain Gym® movements are simple, effective, and easy to add to a normal day's activities. Some "Brain Gyms" take only a few seconds to perform. Balance protocol can increases the effectiveness of any kind of movements.
Brain Gym® instructors are licensed through the Educational Kinesiology Foundation. Information about licensure is available at www.braingym.org.

Brain Gym® Workshops
 |
- Group Balance (1-1/2 to 2 hours)
- Get in balance! Together, we set goals and achieve them through movement. Although we learn a little Brain Gym® along the way, this is primarily an experiential workshop for those who want to change habits, clarify their thoughts, or just plain feel good.
Balances can be organized for any group or occasion: To bring parties to common ground during a meeting. To create a sense of confidence and team-work before a game or a performance. To introduce the members of a newly formed group. To begin a board retreat. Balances for the Equinox & New Year's Day are regular features at the Mariposa Museum; check Calendar for the next one.
- Introduction to Brain Gym®(1-4 hours)
- A taste of Brain Gym®! Triune Brain theory, the three Edu-K dimensions, and some movement activities.
- Brain Gym® One-Day Intensive (6-8 hours)
- The intro, plus all the Brain Gym® movements and when to use them.
- Brain Gym® 101 (24-28 hours: 3 or 4 days)
- Add the Dynamic Brain, the Physiology of Stress, Repatterning, Balance Protocol, and lots and lots of practice. This course fulfills the first requirement for licensure and is the prerequisite to many other Edu-K offerings.
- Music through the Midlines (Intro, 1, 2, or 3-day format)
- The Edu-K Dimensions correspond with elements of music, infant reflex patterns, and lots of rhythm, song, and movement games. Balance for the Musician Within. This course has been especially designed to be safe for those who believe that they are musically impaired! It is in the approval process to become an Edu-K elective.
- The Why's and How's of Muscle Checking (1-1/2 - 4 hours)
- Muscle Checking is a basic technique of kinesiology. Although it is no longer part of the basic Brain Gym 101 curriculum, muscle checking is a useful tool for many situations, from to individual personal development, to one-on-one sessions, to group processes. It is also a key component in many Educational Kinesiology courses.
We learn the principles behind muscle checking, how to calibrate ourselves for clear information, how to ask a question, how to evaluate the information we receive, and we practice, practice, practice.
